Do you remember Jack Schwarts? - Our dear
old friend who worked with us for decades. While
Jack's no longer with us in body, he will never be
forgotten in our hearts. I found these old news
photos from the early 1980's in an unused desk at our
office and just couldn't resist being the nostalgic person
that I am.
How about him - Who could this handome
young fellow be? Why of course! It's Jesse Horton,
Sr. The head HONCHO not to mention my daddy.
And looking very dapper I might add.
And I'm sure you'll recognize my sister
Holly (Horton) Williamson who still looks young and lovely.
The hair, make-up and clothing styles might change but she's
still HOLLY DOLLY (Singing, Dancing and Selling Real Estate.
Oh yea, and I almost forgot, Laughing!)
Some things change
while other things seem to remain the same. As my dear
friend Donnie Iris sang in his song Human Evolution,
"The more things change the more they stay the same..." Here
we are nearing the close of yet another decade of serving the
public and while my darling Alva just keeps getting more
beautiful each and every day, I'm certainly not the
slender young fellow you see on the left any longer.
When I pulled these photos out of the back of an old desk drawer
in my office, it sparked my, not so vivid, memory into crystal
clarity. I showed them to my wife (as well as my
partner in the business all these years) Alva, and she and
I sat down and looked at them and began to reminisce about all the young
couples to whom we've sold their first homes. We run into them
all the time in the super markets, restaurants and stores or they'll
honk at us at an intersection and wave. The little babies they had
with them in carriers when they signed the sales agreements in
our office years ago now look like I remember their parents did
way back when. And often times I get phone calls from
customers that say, "You don't know me but my dad or mom bought
our house from you..." and that always brings an instant
smile to my face and gives me a sense of accomplishment unlike
any other. In fact, it's what makes this hectic, stressful
and sometimes downright awful business worth doing. You
see, the commissions we've earned get spent and the bright
yellow signs eventually fade, but the trust we've earned from
the customers and client's we've had the privilege to serve over
the years lives on from decade to decade and from generation to
generation. We once heard a funny saying that we thought had
a degree of truth in it, "Whoever dies with the most toys WINS!"
Well we've modified it to, "Whoever dies with the most friends
WINS!" It has always been this agency's belief that the
highest calling is to serve. So for over 30 years we
have used the slogan "Service with a smile..." And now you
know why we're smiling; It's all because of you, our customers,
